Iron and other Micronutrients

Iron fertilizers are applied to the soil or sprayed on plants suffering from yellowing (chlorosis) and leaf scorch due to iron. Correction of iron chlorosis is done by either 1) applying a dry iron fertilizer to the soil, 2) mixing a soluble iron product in water and applying it as a drench or through a fertilizer injector, 3) direct injection into the plant, or 4) a liquid foliar spray.

Soil pH can nullify some iron fertilizers applied to soil except the iron chelates with EDDHA. Foliar sprays should be applied multiple times and combined with a leaf wetting agent such as EZ Wet for best results.

Apply iron fertilizers to soils in early spring. Apply iron fertilizers to plants any time leaves are present.

EZ Wet Spray Surfactant      Quart

Add EZ Wet to any foliar spray, fertilizer or pesticide, to reduce runoff and improve performance. EZ Wet helps fertilizers penetrate to the interior of the leaf rather than run off its surface. It "makes water wetter". Better than using harsh dishwater detergents sometimes recommended on the internet, EZ Wet is made from Yucca extracts, saponins, that are gentle and safe for all plants. Compare its price to other safe surfactant substitutes like Dr. Bonners or Castile soaps. EZ Wet is safe, organic and recommended for washing field-grown, fresh fruits and vegetables to remove garden soil and pesticide residues.

Use 1 to 2 ounces for each 5 to 10 gallons of spray mixture. Consult the label before using.

Organic Iron Chelate    (10% iron HEDTA)    8 oz

Organic Iron Chelate can be applied to the soil or plant foliage as a liquid iron application.

Organic Iron Chelate can be applied to all vegetables, small fruits, grapes, fruit trees, ornamental

trees and shrubs and flowers.

Typical rates are one half to 1 ½ teaspoons per plant, 1 to 2 pounds per tree, ½ to 1 pound per hundred foot row or 1 pound in 100 gallons of water (1 teaspoon per gallon). Use a wetting agent such as EZ Wet when applying it to the foliage.  Apply all of it as soon as possible after mixing in water.

Use a wetting agent like EZ Wet when making foliar applications. Best results with distilled or RO water in the spray mix or adjust the spray solution to a pH of 6.5 to 7.0.

Grow More 6% Iron EDDHA  Chelate  (6% iron EDDHA)    1lb & 5 lb

Grow More’s EDDHA Iron Chelate can be applied directly to the soil, used in fertilizer injectors or mixed in water and applied as a foliar spray. Unlike other iron chelates, EDDHA iron chelate is not

sensitive to soil or water pH. EDDHA Iron Chelate can be applied to vegetables, grapes, tree

fruits, small fruits, ornamental trees and shrubs, turfgrass and flowering annuals and perennials.

Typical rates are ½ to 1 pound per hundred foot row, 2 to 6 ounces per tree depending on size,

one half to 1 ½ ounces per shrub, 4 ounces per 1000 square feet of lawn area. EDDHA Iron

Chelate should not be stored for more than 24 hours after mixing.

Iron Sulfate   (19% iron)   15lb & 50 lb

Iron Sulfate is an inexpensive source of iron for plants provided soil pH is below 6.5. It is highly

effective as a foliar application for lawns and other plants provided the water is acidified to a pH

between 5.5 to 6.5 and applied to foliage with a wetting agent such as EZ Wet.

Caution: Iron Sulfate will stain cement and stucco. Be sure to clean these areas immediately after an

application and before it dries. Never apply during hot weather.

Make sure you use a wetting agent like EZ Wet when making foliar applications. Best results with distilled or RO water in the spray mix or adjust the spray solution to a pH of 6.5 to 7.0.

Kerex Super Iron Chelate  (18.7% total iron, 8.8 % soluble iron)  1.75 lb & 4 lb.

Kerex is a combination of HEDTA and EDDHA iron chelates and used as an iron supplement added to the soil to correct yellowing due to inadequate amounts of available iron.

Add one to two ounces of chelate per plant in late winter or early spring before new growth. Irrigate to move Kerex into the root environment.

Manganese Sulfate  50 lb

Used for correcting manganese deficiency in plants growing in alkaline soils.

Zinc Sulfate    35.5% zinc, 17% sulfur    50 lb   Soil or foliar fertilizer for zinc deficiency

This OMRI listed fertilizer is used to correct zinc deficiency in fruit trees and ornamentals.

Apply at a rate of 2 to 5 lb per acre as a foliar spray or 5 to 10 lb per acre applied to the soil.

Make sure you use a wetting agent like EZ Wet when making foliar applications. Best results with distilled or RO water in the spray mix or adjust the spray solution to a pH of 6.5 to 7.0.
